Sandpiper Headset > Versions / Options
To cater for different needs, there are a few different versions of the Sandpiper Headset available:
- Helmet or Finger Mounted PTT (Push To Talk)
- With or without 'Quick Disconnect' (With Joint or No Joint)
- Single or Twin Speaker Pad
Helmet Mounted PTT for simplest design with minimum wiring. Push To Talk (PTT) button attaches to helmet.
Finger Mounted PTT makes transmission easier but adds more loose cable. Helmet fixings included (but you may need to adapt the headset to suit your particular helmet and needs).
'Quick Disconnect' versions (with Joint) have additional plugs so you can leave your helmet on (with the headset still attached) but quickly disconnect the headset from the radio (which is usally attached somewhere on the harness) and get out of the harness without still being attached to the radio.
Helmet Mounted PTT (without Quick Disconnect)

The simplest and cheapest version of the Sandpiper headset.
Select: Helmet PTT (no Joint)
Helmet Mounted PTT with Quick Disconnect (Joint)

Comes with quick disconnect leads so the radio can be left in its pocket allowing easy detachment of the helmet.
Select: Helmet PTT (with Joint)
Finger Mounted PTT with Quick Disconnect (Joint)

Made in two parts with plugs between the helmet and the radio and between the PTT and the radio.
Select: Finger PTT (with Joint)
Sandpiper Headset > Basic Setup & Usage Notes
The speaker pad should be positioned close to the ear with supplied Velcro.
The microphone is best positioned close to the ear or the side of your cheek.
The Push To Talk (PTT) button should be Velcro'd onto the outside of the helmet where easily reached.
Please bear in mind that no headset is indestructible! In fact, from our experience, all headsets are quite fragile and need to be handled with a great deal of care to ensure prolonged usage. If misused, or handled roughly, any headset can be damaged (and so stop working) even on the very first usage.
Before each flight all headsets should be carefully attached and set up, taking care to ensure that the headset (or any of the wires) will not get snagged or yanked at any point during take-off, flight or landing.
At the end of every flight, the headset should be carefully removed from the helmet (being very careful not to pull the wires, or put any undue strain on the wires or any part of the headset). The headset should not be left attached to the helmet, nor the wires left attached to either the harness, flying suit or any other part of the flying equipment. The headset should then always be carefully stowed away somewhere where it will be totally protected from being squashed or have any undue strain put upon it.
IMPORTANT ORDER NOTES
Please ensure you order the correct headset for your radio (i.e. please make sure the headset you order is compatible with your radio).
For some models of Radio you may need to buy an Adaptor to connect the headset to (this is the same for any headset).
